The Nature of Handmade Glass

 

At Kitras every piece is made by hand! 

While we have “recipes” to identify the individual frit needed for each colour combination and molds to create each item, everything at Kitras is made by hand and is truly a one-of-a-kind piece! 

Where each colour of frit lands on each individual creation is different EVERY time! This simple fact adds to the wonder, awe and uniqueness of our glass because it is truly impossible for any two pieces to be exactly the same. Even if they tried, our glassblowers could never make an exact replica of any piece and that’s not our goal. Our goal is one-of-a-kind art.

 

 

Many of our molds are made of wood and due to the extremely high temperatures of our recycled glass, sometimes those molds expand over time. While all of our items are very close to their identified size, due to having multiple molds in use and the individuality of our glassblowers and their breath, each piece has its own individual size.

While we strive to maintain a level of cohesion and similarity throughout our production process our goal has never been to create exact replicas. That’s the beauty and appeal of handmade, one-of-a-kind products.
